About Original Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, California

The Original Muscle Beach was an outdoor body-building gym on the beach just south of the Santa Monica Pier. Although the gym is gone, Santa Monica can still say they had the first Muscle Beach as it was established in the early 1930s. It has been named “Original” to not be confused with nearby Muscle Beach Venice which was established later in the early 1950’s and continues to operate today.

At the site of the Original Muscle Beach there are swings, bars, and other stationary apparatus for working out. Fitness gurus, gymnasts, families, and everyone in between can be spotted at his fun and non-competitive facility on South Santa Monica State Beach.
