About Phillips Gulch Falls in Jenner, California

A seasonal waterfall pours over a rocky cliff in a hidden part of Salt Point State Park in Sonoma County. If you happen to visit this area in winter or spring or after a period of rain, there will be a gorgeous waterfall nearby one of the best beaches in the park.

Phillips Creek flows down through Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve, crosses under Highway 1, and makes its way down a narrow gulch to the ocean. It’s just one of a few waterfalls that fall on beaches in California.

You can find the trailhead for this short hike at the first right-hand bend in Highway 1 as you drive north from Stump Beach. It’s a small parking area on the highway shoulder (see our map for the location)

Walk toward the water on any of the unofficial trails and then turn north until you find the creek. The falls are about 300 yards from your parking spot. Hiking northward on a trail from Stump Beach is another option, it’s just longer and a little harder to find the way.
