About Big Lagoon County Park Beach in Trinidad, California

Big Lagoon and the beach are part of three different parks: Big Lagoon County Park, Harry A. Merlo State Recreation Area, and Humboldt Lagoons State Park. The ocean beach is a long sandy bar that holds back the Pacific Ocean from Big Lagoon. Trekking along this sand bar you have unfettered access to each side for the entire length. This is an excellent spot for beach walking and beachcombing, however, boating and water-related activities, such as canoeing and kayaking, are the most popular things to do at Big Lagoon. The boat launch is at the south end of the lagoon at the main parking lot.

To get here, turn onto Big Lagoon Park Road from Redwood Highway 101 and follow the signs. Swimming is safe on the lagoon, but not a good idea on the ocean side of the beach.
