Dockweiler State Beach – South Beach

The South Beach in Dockweiler State Beach is located near the park’s southern “Bluff Parking Lot”. This is a large beach that’s excellent for sunbathing and beach walking, but is strangely known for hang-gliding.

The main entrance for Dockweiler Beach is where Imperial Highway ends at the ocean, but the entrance to the Bluff Lot is south of there off of Vista Del Mar (see our map). This is a large parking lot with a wide sandy beach below it. Volleyball courts and the Dockweiler Youth Center building are near the parking lot and beyond that to the north is the Dockweiler RV Park Campground Beach (no tent camping allowed).

A novice hang-gliding launch area is on the dunes at the south end of the parking lot. Los Angeles County lifeguards are staffed in towers all along Dockweiler State Beach including here at the South Beach.

Meandering through the beaches and dunes of Dockweiler is Marvin Braude Bike Trail, a paved bike path that ultimately connects Santa Monica State Beach to Torrance Beach for 22 miles total.
