About Carbon-La Costa Beach Access in Malibu, California

Carbon-La Costa Beach Access is one of the newest Malibu public beach accesses. It gives the public access to La Costa Beach between Carbon Canyon Road and Las Flores Canyon Road. This access came about by the removal of a fence that was constructed on California state property without a permit.

Now that the fence is gone the public finally has an access to this stretch of the coast between Carbon Beach (aka Billionaires Beach) and Duke’s Malibu Restaurant. The beach east of Duke’s is known as Las Flores Beach and it lacks public access at this time.

Just east of Carbon-La Costa Beach Access you’ll spot Malibu La Costa Beach Club. The sand above the mean high tide level is part of the club’s private property, but below that line the beach is public so it’s ok to walk on the sand next to the club. The mean high tide line in this area is at the homes so the entire beach is public but give the homes some space if the water level allows.

Parking for La Costa Beach is along PCH near the access and across the highway. Don’t block any garage entrances and if you park on the north side of PCH use the crosswalk at Carbon Canyon Rd to be safe.

Once you get to this beach access you’ll need to find a safe route down to the sand as there is no stairway. Be careful climbing down the huge boulders if that is your path.
