About Pebble Beach of Crescent City in Crescent City, California

Pebble Beach is a long string of connected coves and beaches in Crescent City in Northern California. With a long gradually sloping beach covered in driftwood and agates, this is an interesting place to get out and explore around. It’s a picturesque place too with minor sea stacks all around and a larger one known as Castle Rock that could be in your sunset photos.

The beach has numerous parking areas all along South and North Pebble Beach Drive between Battery Point Lighthouse and Point St. George.

Starting at the south end (nearest the city), there is a viewpoint and picnic area across from Brother Jonathan Memorial Park, and about 500 feet north of that is a road that drops down to parking on a rocky point called Preston Island. Brother Jonathan Park is a memorial and cemetery for those who perished in the shipwreck of Brother Jonathan on Point Saint George Reef on July 30th, 1865. The park has a playground and restrooms

The next access is across from address 1879 S Pebble Beach Drive and gives you the option of a sandy beach or a rocky cove on either side of a rocky point.

Continuing northward, the widest part of Pebble Beach is after the housing development ends and a large wetlands area opens on the inland side of the road. Large drift logs dot the shoreline here and huge rocks can be seen offshore.

Castle Rock National Wildlife Refuge is an offshore bird and sea lion watching spot that’s best viewed from the north end of Pebble Beach. This huge rock is closed to the public to protect animal habitats (more info here).

Continuing farther north beyond the city’s regional airport there are more roadside parking areas with hiking trails on the bluff and eventually the road ends at Point Saint George where you’ll find a wild and remote shoreline.

Wear your comfy water shoes, bring a pail for pebbles and other interesting finds, and binoculars when you walk this beach. You will want to get your feet wet on this beach. We walked the entire beach and back. Got lots of great pics and saw tons of birds. Don’t skip this beach if you’re in the area.
