About Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park in Mendocino, California

There is a small beach in Frolic Cove within Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park, but the lighthouse is the main attraction. Since few people venture out farther than the lighthouse you will be rewarded for your efforts to find this beach. Look for the North Trail leading away from the lighthouse area as it leads to the beach where a steep path provides the final access.

The lighthouse and other historic structures are the real reason to visit this state park. It’s just a half-mile walk along an accessible path from the parking lot to the lighthouse (handicapped parking is provided next to the lighthouse if needed). There are two small museums, an aquarium, and even a bed and breakfast called the Lighthouse Inn for those who want to stay overnight.

To find Point Cabrillo Light Station Historic Park, turn off Highway 1 onto Point Cabrillo Drive north of Mendocino. The park is open sunrise to sunset daily.

The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the maintenance of the lighthouse and the park.

It was so fun visiting this park! Very interesting to wander through the lighthouse, the aquarium, and the museums. We didn’t make it all the way down to the beach, but the views were spectacular.
