About San Nicolas Island in Oxnard, California
San Nicolas Island is owned by the United States Government and controlled by the US Navy as San Nicolas Naval Facility. No public access to the island is allowed for hiking, backpacking, camping, etc. Sea kayaking is not allowed inside of 300 yards from shore. Scuba diving is allowed on some reefs near the island such as Begg Rock and Bull City, but predicting sea conditions and traveling long distances from shore make this a difficult dive spot. Companies such as Truth Aquatics in Santa Barbara can take serious divers to San Nicolas Island.
