About South Imperial Beach in Imperial Beach, California

Imperial Beach continues south of Imperial Beach Boulevard all the way to the southern end of Seacoast Drive. South Imperial Beach is not as wide as the main Imperial Beach City Beach, but it still has great sand and comes with more solitude. The homes and apartment buildings in this area have been protected by a dam of piled up boulders at the back of the beach.

Small parking lots can be found at the side-streets of Admiralty Ave, Beach Ave, Cortez Ave, and Descanso Ave. There are also parking spaces along Seacoast Drive near these access streets.

The beach continues beyond the end of Seacoast Drive in front of Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, a protected area with no housing development to block your view inland. The water along South Imperial Beach is probably still too close to the Mexican border to be considered safe for swimming due to potential sewage contamination.
