Spiral Staircase Beach Access

This beach gets its name from the original access which has since been dismantled. The Spiral Staircase was located below the Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach, but a storm damaged the bridge to the stairs and it stood unused until it became . Only the central core of the stairs remains, however there have been discussions about replacing it. Hopefully this will materialize in the coming years. Until then, the only way to get to this beach is by kayak from one of the nearby beaches like Margo Dodd Beach (the sea kayaking in this area is excellent to say the least).

Spiral Staircase Beach is small and mostly wet at high tide so you are not missing much by losing access. When it was accessible it used to provide access to sea caves in an area that is reachable at low tides. This is still a great place to stop and look over the edge and enjoy the view (free public parking next to Ventana Grill).

If you are looking for a beach to visit near the Spiral Staircase, we recommend either Elmer Ross Beach (below Inn at the Cove Hotel) or Wilmar Stairs Beach. Both are gorgeous spots with a lot to discover.

Next door to the Ventana Grill is the Shore Cliff Hotel (both are owned by Martin Resorts) which has a covered observation platform gazebo located on the point in front of the hotel. Many more hotels and resorts are nearby for accommodations.
