About Spring Ranch Property in Little River, California

The Spring Ranch Property is a little-known gem in Van Damme State Park. It’s a great place to get outside and walk around as there are several miles of flat trails and old road tracks to explore on the coastal property between the towns of Mendocino and Little River.

There are several small beaches below the coastal bluff but only one is safely accessible. Be careful next to the cliff edges and don’t try to reach a beach that is hazardous. The rest of the shoreline below this property is an inter-tidal rock shelf that is excellent for tidepooling and viewing marine mammals like seals if they are present. The beach and tide pools are best if visited at low tide (see tide tables).

To get here, find the parking area off Highway 1 across from Gorden Lane. The trail leads west toward the ocean. After a short walk the main trail veers to the left away from the trees. It is this trail that leads directly to the only accessible beach. From the beach the trail continues south along the bluff and eventually heads back into some trees. It’s worth exploring the entire bluff trail, but unfortunately it doesn’t loop back along the highway so just do this hike as an out-and-back. Unique benches can be found along the trail.

Spring Ranch, on the east side of the highway, is a vacation rental and events venue that is popular for weddings.
