St. Malo Beach

St. Malo Beach is in front of a private gated community with the same name at the southern end of Oceanside, CA. This community was developed in 1929 with a style of architecture that resembles an old-world village in Normandy France. Even from the beach these large beautiful homes are something to see. It’s worth the effort to walk south on the beach from South Oceanside Beach at Cassidy Street or north from Carlsbad City Beach to get here. Unfortunately, there is little beach exposed here at high tide, but during the rest of the time it’s a pleasant route to beach walk. At the center of the beach is a wide sandy access and facilities which are for the St. Malo community members only. The gated entrance is at S Pacific St and Eaton St, but they won’t let you in and there is no beach access from there. Behind the community is the Buena Vista Lagoon which offers excellent birdwatching. There is a nature center for the lagoon operated by the Buena Vista Audubon Society located near St. Malo Beach at 2202 S Coast Highway in Oceanside.
