Westward Beach

Westward Beach is a long and wide beach on the western side of Point Dume in Malibu, California. Westward Beach is the southern and quieter half of Zuma County Beach, a three-mile long sandy stretch of waterfront. With miles of gradually-sloping sand, this is an ideal place for beach walking.

Swimming, sunbathing, and surfing are the main activities at Westward. There are lifeguards and restrooms spaced out along Westward Beach, but if you are looking for volleyball, head over to Zuma where more sand courts can be found. Zuma Lagoon divides Zuma from Westward and is a birdwatching spot.

A fine dining restaurant called The Sunset is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week at the middle of Westward Beach.

To get to Westward Beach, turn off Pacific Coast Highway onto Westward Beach Road and look for shoulder parking spots along the road. If all the spots are taken, there is a large parking lot that charges an entry fee at the end of Westward Road. From this parking lot you will have easy access to hiking trails that ascend to Point Dume Natural Preserve.

Beyond the high rock wall at the south end of Westward Beach there is a hidden spot called Pirates Cove Beach. Just scramble over the boulders at the base of the wall and you’ll find it.
