About West Point Inn in Mill Valley, California

West Point Inn is a backcountry hotel on Mount Tam. It was once a stop on the Mount Tamalpais Scenic Railroad that connected the mountain to the beaches below. The train which operated from 1896 to 1929 was nicknamed “The Crookedest Railroad in the World” and became a popular attraction for those visiting the San Francisco Bay Area. Today the tracks are gone, but the old right of ways have become popular trails on the mountain. A lot of history can be found near the West Point Inn. It has small rooms at the inn and some cabins nearby.

The only catch which for some is a bonus, is that you have to hike or bike to the West Point Inn. There is no public parking at the hotel. Overnight parking is available at the Pantoll and Bootjack Campgrounds at Mount Tamalpais State Park. See their website for info on getting to the Inn.
