Ideally located along California’s central coast, Marina provides plenty of opportunities, both on the beach and off. Here’s a list of things to do and places to stay at in the Marina area.

Things To Do Outside in Marina

Marina State Beach is a popular location for hang gliding, kite flying and surfing. You will also find some fantastic opportunities for spotting dolphins. Not far away is the Marina Dunes Preserve where you can expect to find 170 acres of protected dunes, the highest on the Central Coast. This is also a great spot for uncovering native animals and birds.

Part of what used to be a former U.S. Army post, is now enjoyed by the public. Ford Ord Dunes State Park includes 1,500 feet of trail leading to a full four miles of ocean beach. Enjoy the scenery from the viewing platform, or go for a hike or bike ride.

The Salinas River National Wildlife Refuge provides the opportunity to see different varieties of plants, as well as a diverse amount of wildlife, including deer, birds and lizards.

Where to Stay in Marina

While in Marina, you have the choice of several area motels and resorts. At Sanctuary Beach Resort, you wake up to dolphins and sea otters, while making use of your own golf cart for transportation. Other options include the Howard Johnson Marina at Monterey Bay or the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Marina.

Where to Eat in Marina

When you get hungry, check out the wide variety of restaurants in the area. From the Vietnamese Noodle Bar, to a cup of coffee at Coffee Mia or the fresh fish at Frutti De Mar Grill, there is plenty to choose from in Marina.

Where to Shop in Marina

Marina offers plenty of places to shop, too, including a number of national chain stores. Del Monte Shopping Center, an outdoor shopping mall in nearby Monterey, is only about a 15-minute drive away.

Marina’s Neighborhoods

With around 29,000 residents, Marina includes part of California State University, Monterey Bay. In 2012, the city received the designation as one of the top communities for young people.
