Situated on the edge of one of the Pacific coastline’s most picturesque peninsulas is the sprawling Terranea Resort with its panoramic ocean views. Only thirty miles south of Los Angeles, the 102-acre resort offers a tranquil setting for vacations, honeymoons, weddings and other special events, or even a quick weekend escape (Terranea resort booking). Visitors to the resort can soak up SoCal’s famous sights before retreating to the peace and luxury of Terranea—if they decide to leave the resort at all, that is.

Guest rooms range from hotel-style rooms and suites to bungalows, villas, and casitas. All rooms come equipped with private balconies or patios to take in the breathtaking views. Eight onsite restaurants provide guests with a variety of culinary choices from simple California beach cuisine to highly rated fine dining. Nelson’s is our favorite low-key spot to have lunch. Their other restaurants include Mar’Sel, Bashi, and Catalina Kitchen. Guests can also eat at beautiful outdoor picnic tables or dine by romantic firelight in the evenings.

The Terranea Resort opened in June, 2009 after a ten year long design and development process. When you visit Terranea it is easy to understand why they chose this location. In the early 1950’s another developer had a different vision for this spot. It was to build a large theme park to attract tourists and some of the millions of residents living not far from here. Marineland of the Pacific opened in 1954, a year before Disneyland opened. It was one of the first large amusement parks of California and an early version of what the SeaWorld parks have become. It thrived until the late 1980’s when it fell out of favor. In 1987 it finally shut the doors and the site remained vacant until Lowe Enterprises came along to create Terranea. Some old maps still show the Marineland theme park on this site.

With its unparalleled luxury and unique activities combined with a California casual elegance and beautiful ocean vistas, Terranea Resort is one of those vacation destinations that can’t be missed.
