About Pacific Grove Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary in Pacific Grove, California

This small grove of trees is home to thousands of monarch butterflies during their migration in the winter months. The peak time is mid-November to mid-December, but they can be seen in the months before and after. The Pacific Grove Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is one of the main coastal California Butterfly Groves.

It’s located behind the Butterfly Grove Inn on Ridge Road south of Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove. During the migration just park near the red school building and look for docents that can lead you into the grove and answer any questions.
