About Point Reyes Cypress Tree Tunnel in Inverness, California

Here’s a popular location for professional photographers that is just as amazing for us amateurs. It’s a tunnel of Monterey cypress trees on the Point Reyes Peninsula. The driveway though the trees leads to an old building that houses the Point Reyes National Seashore North District Operations Center and the KPH RCA Radio Station. Read the radio station story on the Maritime Radio Historical Society website.

See our map for the exact location of the Cypress Tree Tunnel. When you get there, drive all the way through the tunnel and park in the lot on the left. The National Park Service wants to make sure visitors don’t park next to the trees or near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. If the gate is closed simply park outside and take pictures from the entrance. The entire driveway through the cypress trees is about a quarter mile each way if you want to walk the entire thing.

Obey any signs that you encounter on your visit as it seems that rules for access are changing due to the popularity of this picturesque place.

This is a lovely place to walk if it’s not busy. Go there early in the morning to have it to yourself. Drakes Estero bay is very close if you like birdwatching.
