Duxbury Reef at Agate Beach County Park

Agate Beach Public Fishing Access is a Marin County Park tucked away via backroads in the town of Bolinas, CA. The park is known for Duxbury Reef which has vast tide pools that are exposed at low tides. At higher tides there is little if any dry sandy beach so consult tide charts before driving all the way out here. Wider sandy beach can be found by walking north after getting down to the shoreline. It’s possible to explore in this direction for a long way, but don’t let your route back get cut off by the rising tide. From the parking lot on the bluff there are short trails that lead to viewpoints over the Pacific Ocean with views all the way to the Farallon Islands on clear days. Stay far away from the cliff edges as erosion has undercut them in many places. Duxbury Reef extends out from Duxbury Point at the south end of Agate Beach. This spot is the southern point of Point Reyes Peninsula. When visiting Agate Beach and Duxbury Reef take your time as you walk out onto the rocks to make sure you don’t step on any living creatures. Taking of any marine life is strictly prohibited. Park access is sunrise to sunset and camping is not allowed.
