About Broad Beach in Malibu, California

Broad Beach is a long narrow public beach in front of beautiful Malibu homes. Bulkheads, rock piles, and other methods are being employed to protect these homes from beach erosion. At higher tides and during the winter there is no dry sand to walk on. At lower tides in the summer, the locals will enjoy this spot and with the gradually sloping beach it is excellent for walking barefoot in the surf. There are tide pools at the north end at the point that separates Broad Beach from Lechuza Beach. Surfers, bodyboarders, and windsurfers head to Broad Beach when conditions are favorable.

Look for public access stairs between homes next to the addresses 31344 and 31200 Broad Beach Road. Another way to access Broad Beach is by walking north from the northernmost parking spaces at Zuma Beach. The California Coastal Commission publishes information on public access all along Broad Beach. There are limited parking spaces along the shoulder of Broad Beach Road near these entrances. Some maps call this Trancas Beach, named for Trancas Canyon Creek that hits the sand between Broad Beach and Zuma County Beach.
