About Malpaso Creek Beach in Carmel, California

Malpaso Creek Beach is below a Highway 1 bridge south of Carmel-By-The-Sea, but few people know it exists. The access is just as hidden as the beach is. If you take the time to find this one you might just have it to yourself.

Low sandstone cliffs are on both sides of this small cove and they have shallow sea caves that can be viewed at the lowest tides. If you are standing near the waters edge you can see the fancy homes above these cliffs. It’s a picturesque spot with cobbles in the creek and just enough sand to lay out a few beach towels.

The hike down to the beach is about 1/5 of a mile. After rains the small creek in this cove will be flowing and the trail leading down to it could be slippery so keep that in mind. Pack all you’ll need for your stay as there are no facilities at this tucked away location.

The only pubic access to Malpaso Creek is unmarked. The trail entrance is between the homes with the address 111 and 112 Yankee Point Drive in Carmel. That loop road starts at two locations on Hwy 1 and the southern one is what you are looking for (2.4 miles south of the entrance to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve). At that intersection Mal Paso Road goes inland and Yankee Point Drive goes toward the ocean. Stay left as you enter the road and park along the shoulder near the trailhead, but be mindful not to block any driveways.
