About Moss Street Beach in Laguna Beach, California

Moss Street Beach is a small rocky and narrow beach in Laguna Beach, California. It’s a tight spot for sunbathing on sunny summer days as there isn’t much dry sand. Tidepooling and scuba diving are the main draws to this cove.

At the end of Moss St (one block west of South Coast Highway) there is a brick wall and a stairwell that drops down to the rocks in Moss Cove. There is not much sand at high tide so consult tide tables online and consider a visit to this secluded spot when the tide is out. Tide pools on both ends of the cove are exposed during low tide.

This is a popular scuba diving spot for the reefs near Moss Point and for Woods Cove Beach to the north which can be accessed by entering the water at Moss Cove.

For parking, there are street parking spaces are available on Moss Street and on the highway, but they are in high demand for the coves in this area so get there early if possible.

Ruby Street Park is at the end of Ruby Street (one block north) and is worth a visit. It’s a tiny park with lots of plants and a wonderful viewpoint that looks down on the rocky shore and Woods Cove.

Note that Moss Street Beach is the official name of the beach on signs near the access entrance, but the beach is commonly referred to as Moss Cove or Moss Point Beach for the rocky point on the south side of the beach (the signage is confusing here).

The mossy rock formations on this beach are gorgeous and at low tide create many interesting tide pools. Worth the walk down to this beach.
