New Break Beach in San Diego, California

New Break Beach is a hard to reach surfing spot in the Sunset Cliffs area of San Diego. This beach is narrow and probably all wet at high tide. Access to this area is from a public parking lot in Point Loma Nazarene College off Lomaland Drive. Ask for directions to the public lot when entering the college campus. From that lot trails head straight downhill to another lot and eventually the bluff’s edge at a beach called Garbage Beach at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park.

To get to New Break Beach you must walk down Lomaland Drive to the bottom and turn right into a gated entry which leads to another lot at Young Hall. Parking for beach access is not allowed in this lot, but the beach is directly below it. All the access points into this beach are steep and exposed. Watch for locals who will lead you to the safest one. Another public lot can be found at the corner of Ladera Street and Cornish Drive if the college lot is full.
