About South Rodeo Beach in Sausalito, California

South Rodeo Beach is a small beach in a secluded cove south of Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands. It has a reputation as a clothing-optional beach. At low tide you could probably walk south from Rodeo Beach, but the best access is to park at the Battery Alexander parking lot west of the visitor center. Near the entrance to that parking lot there is a trail that descends directly west to the beach. As you begin this short hike, Battery Mendell stands out to the south. Bird Island is just offshore at the south end of Rodeo Cove and other rocks in the surf make this a photogenic spot, especially at sunset. From the north end of the beach the rock arch at the bottom of Bird Island is visible. At high tide South Rodeo Beach disappears so plan accordingly. North of the parking lot there are hiking trails that lead to various old concrete structures that are part of Battery Alexander. To get to this parking lot, head to the Marin Headlands area of Golden Gate National Recreation Area and follow signs that lead to Point Bonita Lighthouse then continue a short distance to Battery Alexander just off Field Road.
