This photo by Martin Swett looks out towards the Pacific Ocean from Scotty Point near Trinidad California. In Martin’s own words:

I’d heard about the unmarked trail/scramble down to the beach below Scotty’s Point from a friend. There is a turnout about a mile south of Patrick’s Point State Park where the unmarked trail begins. It really is more of a scramble, as you go through brush, ferns, spider webs and an active slide on the first half of the descent. The lower portion is via ropes through pampas grass. Gloves are recommended. But the arduous trip to the bottom pays off with total solitude. The beach is rocky and access is poor during high tide, but low tide provides boulder hopping access to other small beaches both to the north and south. This is a beautifully rugged coastline that worth the effort to visit.
