About Los Angeles County
Los Angeles County is home to about ten million people and on sunny days it seems like most of them are at the beach. The city of Los Angeles is huge, but its waterfront is interrupted by several cities that it surrounds. Some of the beach cities that LA wraps around include Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Santa Monica. All of these cities have nice sandy beaches on Santa Monica Bay. Rancho Palos Verdes on the Palos Verdes Peninsula is also surrounded by LA. The PV Peninsula has a large number of unique beaches, including some that are little-known, that can be found along its irregular shoreline. South of LA is the huge city of Long Beach with a long sand beaches on the ocean and on Alamitos Bay. South of Long Beach are the beaches of Huntington, Laguna, and Newport Beach in Orange County. North of LA there are about thirty beaches along the Malibu coast. Among them are state park beaches that include Malibu Lagoon SB, Point Dume SB, Robert Meyer Memorial SB, and Leo Carrillo State Park. Beyond the Malibu coast is Ventura County with more remote beach options.
