Believe it or not, it’s possible to sleep by the beach without spending a fortune, even in California. Previously, we listed some budget-friendly beach hotels that everyone seemed to enjoy, so we thought we’d add to that list. The following accommodations all rent for under $200 per night and are clean, comfortable and highly recommended by travelers.

A note: Some of these hotels may have higher rates during peak travel season (summer) and holidays. We recommend booking early and traveling at off-peak times if saving money is important.

You’ll pay about one third of that if you don’t mind sleeping dormitory style. You’ll also enjoy free WiFi, free daily breakfast and a community kitchen.
