Alder Creek Beach

Alder Creek Beach is located at the north end of Manchester State Beach. The walking route to this remote beach follows an old closed road for about a mile. This old paved and striped road is crumbling away, but remains the only direct footpath to the beach. There is room for a few cars near Highway 1 where this road turns off (see our map). After parking, just walk north past the farm buildings and follow the old road. A longer route is to park at the northern state park parking lot at the end of Kinney Road then walk about 1.5 miles on the sand to the creek mouth. A trail called the Davis Wetlands Trail begins at the state park campground and meanders north through fields and dunes to Alder Creek Beach. On the way is passes by two old abandoned homes directly above the beach. The bluff above Alder Creek is a great place for whale watching December-April. An interesting fact about Alder Creek Beach is that the San Andreas Fault crosses from land into the ocean at this location.
