About The Lone Cypress in Pebble Beach, California

The Lone Cypress on 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach is one of the most iconic spots on the California Coast. One tree perched on a rock along the shore doesn’t sound like much, but this one is pretty special. This picturesque old tree, which is said to be over 250 years old, is a must-see spot when visiting Pebble Beach.

To visit the Lone Cypress, you’ll need to pay the Pebble Beach entrance fee (a reasonable $11.25) and drive the loop road called 17 Mile Drive. When you enter, you’ll get a map that makes it easy to locate the Cypress overlook and the other landmarks along this loop road. Budget a couple of hours or most of the day to be able to see the sights and spend time at the unique and beautiful white sand beaches in Pebble Beach.

When you get to the parking area for the Lone Cypress, look for a view through the trees from the railing near the cars. This is a great perspective. Just to the east (left when looking at the ocean) there are stairs that descend to a wooden platform where you can get closer to the Cypress for a different perspective.

Keep your entrance fee receipt as you can use it like a gift card to buy a meal at any of the restaurants in Pebble Beach (as long as you spend $35 which is very easy here).

The five entrance gates for Pebble Beach are open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day. Motorcycles, even the quiet ones, are prohibited unfortunately.

My hubs and I visited Carmel CA years ago. It was such a wonderful trip! Quaint shops in a lovely downtown. We did several walking tours. On one of our walks we smelled the wonderful scent of lavender and just in front of us we found the lavender patch. It uplifted me in such a delightful way. The highlight of the trip tho was seeing the “Lone Cypress.” It stood proudly on the top of a cliff overlooking sparkling blue water.

I hope to visit Carmel again someday soon. It is a charming and beautiful area.
