About La Conchita Beach in Ventura, California
La Conchita Beach is between Mussel Shoals and Rincon Point at the Ventura and Santa Barbara County border. The housing community of La Conchita is across Highway 101 from the beach.
This is a narrow beach that is backed by the rocky protection barrier of the highway. Because of the proximity to the highway and the lack of access points, this is not a busy beach. Parking along the highway is not allowed so the best access point is a pedestrian underpass from La Conchita. A concrete tunnel begins across from Oxnard Avenue and passes under railroad tracks and both directions of the 101.
The neighborhood of La Conchita has suffered from large landslides in the recent past that have wiped out homes and even killed people. The worst of these was the tragic slide on January 10, 2005 when a huge rain-caused side killed 10 residents.
The entrance to La Conchita is from the northbound lanes of Hwy 101. A sign here says “enter at your own risk” and details the geological hazards the community faces. Turn on West Surfside Street and park near Oxnard Ave if you want to visit La Conchita Beach. Another option is to walk north on the sand from Mussel Shoals Beach.
