About Moss Beach in Pebble Beach, California

Moss Beach is in the cove south of Spanish Bay inside the private community of Pebble Beach, CA. This is a sandy beach with cobblestone rocks at the back. Sawmill Gulch drains down through The Links at Spanish Bay golf course then hits Moss Beach. A rugged rocky area at the north end of Moss Beach separates it from Spanish Bay Beach.

There is a boardwalk trail behind Moss Beach that runs north to Spanish Bay Beach and then other trails continue into Asilomar State Beach. This is a scenic walk in the dunes between the beach and the golf course. Point Joe is a rocky area at the south end of Moss Beach that makes a pleasant stop along the 17 Mile Drive loop. Look for signs that say Restless Sea next to Point Joe.

To get into Pebble Beach you must pay an entrance fee at one of the community entrances. The parking area right behind Moss Beach is on Spanish Bay Road which is part of the famous Pebble Beach 17 Mile Drive. It’s possible to park along Sunset Drive in Pacific Grove and walk here so you don’t have to enter Pebble Beach.

Note that people have been stacking the rocks at Moss Beach in recent years and some stacks get quite tall so keep kids and dogs away from them to avoid injury. Please refrain from creating new stacks and try to leave this beautiful beach in its natural state.
