Buena Vista Nature Center and Lagoon

The Buena Vista Nature Center is located on the shores of Buena Vista Lagoon at the city border of Carlsbad and Oceanside. Buena Vista Creek tickles down toward the ocean and forms a lagoon behind the private housing community of St. Malo near the creek mouth. Most of the year the lagoon usually does not breach the beach.

It’s a beautiful natural setting and trails near the Nature Center provide a clear view into it. A local division of the National Audubon Society has built and maintains the visitor center next to this incredible wetland that is home to many bird species. Locals and visitors to the region should consider pulling off Coast Highway for a stop here.
