About Children's Fairyland in Oakland, California

Children’s Fairlyland is a non-profit theme park that opened in 1950 for San Francisco Bay Area families to enjoy. This opening era was pre-Disneyland and Children’s Fairyland in fact had a profound impact on the future mega theme park in Anaheim (read it’s history here). It hasn’t changed that much over it’s 70+ years of existence, and with financial support from locals and local businesses, this park is well-maintained and thriving.

Young children (especially those 7 and under) will enjoy this park that uses a theme of a magical fantasy world to entertain and enrich their minds. At Children’s Fairyland they have storybook sets based on children’s books, stories, and nursery rhymes (think Alice in Wonderland, Jack and Jill, and Peter Rabbit). Additionally they have rides for youngsters and a small “zoo” where kids can observe and even pet and hold animals. Entertaining and educational events and performances occur throughout the day.

Children’s Fairyland is located walking distance from Downtown Oakland on the shores of Lake Merritt. Check their website for specific dates and hours of operation as they vary throughout the year. In general it’s open daily in June, July and August and several days a week the rest of the year.
