Clipper Cove Beach on Yerba Buena Island

There are several beaches along the shoreline of Yerba Buena Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay about halfway between San Francisco and Oakland. Some of the beaches are part of a Seal Colony protected area, and others are small pocket beaches that are difficult to find and access from land. On the north side Yerba Buena Island is Clipper Cove Picnic Area. This park has nice views of the Bay Bridge and a calm sandy beach.

The only problem is parking for easy access. The Clipper Cove Picnic Area parking lot off Treasure Island Road is regularly closed off. If it is, then just continue onto Treasure Island and park at the Treasure Isle Marina, then walk back to the beach.

To get there, just exit off I-80 (Bay Bridge) at Yerba Buena Island then follow signs toward Treasure Island. A steep stairway leads down from the park to the beach. It’s a north-facing beach so it can be cool and shaded. This spot is best for a picnic or a resting spot on a kayaking trip circumnavigating Yerba Buena and Treasure Island.
