About Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center in Dana Point, California

The Dana Point Nature Interpretive Center is located on the Dana Point Headlands overlooking the harbor. This center is an educational facility with information on the local flora and fauna both on land and in the ocean. Several hiking trails begin from the center. One is an interpretive trail with plants identified along the route. The trails lead to viewpoints over Dana Point Harbor and the Pacific Ocean where whales can be spotted migrating from December through April (best Jan-Mar). The trails are open daily from 7am to sunset but the interpretive center has different hours (see their website).

The hiking trails and other paths meander through over 60 acres of land that is comprised of several parks and preserves, Harbor Point Conservation Park, Dana Point Preserve, Hilltop Conservation Park, and South Strands Conservation Park. Dogs and bikes are not allowed in these four parks and hiking off trail is prohibited.
