Mission San Fernando Rey de España was founded in 1797 in the Mission Hills district of Los Angeles. It was named for Saint Fernando as was the nearby city of San Fernando and the San Fernando Valley. This mission was the 17th of 21 separate California Catholic Missions that stretch from Mexico to the San Francisco Bay Area.
If you are traveling in the LA area or hitting the beaches of Santa Monica Bay or Malibu, it’s not a long drive to the mission.
