About Rancho Corral de Tierra in Half Moon Bay, California

Rancho Corral de Tierra is a National Park Service owned open space on San Mateo Peninsula. It is co-managed with California State Parks, San Mateo County Parks, and many local volunteers lending a hand to maintain the trails and trailheads.

Trails explore the hillsides and ridgetops of this 4000 acre property. It’s great for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. There are no real trailhead parking lots for this newly managed property so there are some logistical challenges.

Here is a map of the property which shows the boundaries, topography, trails, trail users, and the lack of parking lots. Mountain bikers probably have it easiest in this park as they can ride up to the trails from town (El Granada, Princeton, Moss Beach, and Montara are closest). Hikers must be dropped off at the trailheads as parking isn’t allowed. It’s possible to park at Gray Whale Cove or Montara State Beach and hike in via trails in McNee Ranch State Park. Equestrians can book a guided trail ride at Moss Beach Ranch if they plan ahead.
