About Point Lobos SNR – Whalers Cove in Carmel, California

Whalers Cove is the northern beach in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve near Carmel. Whalers Cove and the adjacent beachless Bluefish Cove are both known for incredible scuba diving opportunities and are the only allowed dive spots in the park. Registered divers can enter the water near Whaler’s Cabin and explore the coves and reefs here. The Cabin, which was once a cabin for Chinese Fishermen, has been preserved and converted to a cultural history museum. There is a small diving area next to Whalers Cove called “The Pit” but it is not easily accessible from the bluff above. Whalers Cove Beach can be under water at high tide, but when the tide is out this narrow beach is fun to explore.
