Steamer Lane is really just a surfing spot for experienced surfers near Point Santa Cruz. The shoreline here is mostly cliffs and piled up boulders except at the lowest tides. Come to watch the swells or the riders, but don’t expect a sandy beach for sunbathing. On the other side of the point is Its Beach a popular sandy spot below a steep bluff. Lighthouse Field State Beach is a park on top of the point and across the street where trails meander through an open space. The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum is located inside the lighthouse on the point. Parking for Steamer Lane can be found along West Cliff Drive near Pelton Avenue. A couple stairways lead down to the water near Pelton Ave.
