About Carmet Beach in Bodega Bay, California

Carmet Beach is a narrow rocky beach in front of the small housing community of Carmet north of Bodega Bay, CA. Carmet Beach is one of many fishing beaches that are part of Sonoma Coast State Park.

From the parking lot along Highway 1 there are steep trails that drop down to beaches on both sides. The southern cove is the widest and sandiest and connects to Marshall Gulch Beach. The northern cove extends north along a narrow boulder-filled shoreline that continues up to Schoolhouse Beach. At high tide these beaches can be unsafe because of the rough surf and narrow shoreline. Always watch for random large “sneaker waves” that crash onshore unpredictably.

My favorite little get away beach near Bodega Bay. Steep trail down to beach but it is generally sparsely populated. Our dogs love to run free here.
