About Capistrano Beach Park in Dana Point, California
Capistrano Beach Park is the main beach in the community of Capistrano Beach (“Capo Beach”) in Dana Point, CA. Orange County operates this park, which has a parking lot with nice facilities including restroom, picnic tables, and a basketball court. Sometimes north of the parking lot there are sand volleyball courts, but there is no grass at this park. Surfing is popular at Capistrano Beach Park when the waves break in the summer months.
Capo Beach is narrow at the parking lot but it opens up north of there. Storms and higher tides have ripped away the sand at this beach and the county is doing their best to truck more in as needed. It’s a constant battle with construction crews frequently fixing eroded structures so consult the county website to see what’s open.
North of Capo Beach Park you’ll find the southern day-use area of Doheny State Beach which has fire pits and picnic areas. South of Capo Beach Park there are many homes along Beach Road and at low tide you can walk that way. Just stay on the part of the beach below the mean high tide line as that’s the public portion of the beach.
You’ll find the entrance to the Capistrano Beach parking lot at Coast Highway and Palisades Drive.
