About Mitchell’s Cove Beach in Santa Cruz, California

Mitchell’s Cove Beach is another south-facing beach in west Santa Cruz, CA. It is located below the bluff between Woodrow Avenue and Almar Avenue on West Cliff Drive. There is a parking lot right above the beach on W Cliff Drive. A few paces west of the parking area is a large stairwell that provides safe access to the beach below. At the bottom of the stairs is a tall rock monolith poking up out of the beach. During high tides and during the winter stormy months there isn’t much dry sand exposed in Mitchells Cove. Large boulders have been piled up in the pockets of the bluff to minimize erosion from these storms. Dogs are allowed on leash on Mitchell’s Beach anytime and off leash before 10am and after 4pm.

Love that there is an off leash dog park! However, it’s a bit of a steep walk down for an elderly dog and a triPAWd. The water is pretty calm in this area, making it safer for dogs to swim. I’ve been to this beach a couple times and have found the owners often don’t watch their dogs very closely. The beach is also swarming with sand fleas! Be prepared for you and your furry friends to get chewed up!
