About Bolinas Lagoon Seals and Birdwatching in Stinson Beach, California

Bolinas Lagoon is a large shallow body of water behind a huge sand spit on Bolinas Bay in Marin County. As the tide ebbs and flows, the appearance of the shoreline changes greatly with tide flats exposed at low tide. Bird-watching is popular on Bolinas Lagoon as it is a home and migration stop for many species of birds. Harbor seals hang out there too and are visible from the shoreline in many spots. North of Stinson Beach along Shoreline Highway (Hwy 1) there are several pullouts where visitors can see these animals up close. On the Bolinas side of the lagoon there are more vantage points including some near Bolinas Beach.
