About Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro, California

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is located behind Cabrillo Harbor Beach in the San Pedro district of Los Angeles. It is one of the larger and older aquariums on the California coast (founded in 1935).

They have many exhibits on display and several different wings to explore. The Southern California Marine Habitats Hall has ocean zones to learn about including sandy beaches, mud flats, tide pools, kelp forests, and the open ocean. They have a working laboratory that is open to visitors and an interpretive area called the Exploration Center where kids can learn through hands-on (actually all five senses) exhibits. It’s a great place for families to visit when in the Los Angeles and Long Beach areas.

The beach next to the aquarium has one side on the Los Angeles Harbor (Cabrillo Harbor Beach) and a very different one on the Pacific Ocean (Cabrillo Ocean Beach). If you have time after your visit to the aquarium, take some time to explore the beaches.
