About Cabrillo Beach – Ocean Beach in Los Angeles, California

Cabrillo Ocean Beach (aka Oceanside) is on the ocean side of Cabrillo Beach Park in the San Pedro District of Los Angeles. The park also has a beach on the inside of the jetty called Harbor Beach. Both these beaches benefit from a well-maintained park with grass areas, picnic tables, a playground, volleyball courts, and nice facilities. The restored Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse is between Ocean Beach and Harbor Beach. Ocean Beach can be rough at times with waves high enough to attract local surfers.

The safer swimming beach at this park is on the harbor side, however that beach often has poor water quality, especially after storms. Just check in with the lifeguards before entering the harbor water. Scuba divers, however, enjoy these ocean waters when the conditions are right. It is possible to explore west of here by walking on the rocky shoreline toward the bluffs at Point Fermin below the “Sunken City” especially at lower tides.
