Lands End Labyrinth (Now a Heart!)

UPDATE: Vandals have continued to destroy the labyrinth which is made up of easy-to-move rocks. After many rebuilds by generous folks, everyone had given up and there was no labyrinth on this flat viewpoint for a while. It remained a blank canvas until someone recently gathered up the rocks from down below and created a large outline of a heart – like the Valentines Day symbol. We don’t have a picture yet (please send us one and we’ll put it up), but we’ve seen a few shots and it looks awesome. We’ve heard that couples are getting their pictures at the new “Lands End Heart” for anniversaries, engagements and the like. The world can sure use a bit more heart these days. Well done we say! 

On your next trip to San Francisco take the hike out to Mile Rock Beach at Lands End. Just above the beach there are two military gun foundations embedded in a flat shelf in the rock. Between these foundations you’ll find the Lands End Labyrinth (also known as the Eagle Point Labyrinth).

Kids (and adults) will enjoy walking into the center of this rock maze and back out again. Views of the Golden Gate Bridge are outstanding from this vantage point. The cairn-covered beach below Lands End Point is pretty cool too, but go at low tide to have more beach to explore.

Looking for more to see? Then head over to the Sutro Baths or look for one of the three shipwrecks visible at low tide from the Lands End area. All of these places are part of Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
