San Gabriel Mission

San Gabriel Mission Arcangel is located in eastern Los Angeles in San Gabriel near Pasadena. It is an active church, but can be visited any day of the week. This mission was founded in 1771 and is the 4th oldest of 21 Catholic Missions along the California coast.

Self-guided tours of the mission are available daily for a nominal admission fee which varies by age. See their website for fees. Getting here is easy from most parts of the LA area, but is best mid-day to avoid rush-hour traffic. Before or after your visit to the San Gabriel Mission, hit the sandy beaches of Santa Monica Bay.
