About Santa Monica Veterans Memorial in Santa Monica, California

Five pillars cast unique shadows every day at this California veterans memorial, but on the most special day of Veterans Day, they are designed to be aligned as the sun sets and cast one shadow. Each pillar represents a branch of our military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, & Coast Guard). It’s a brilliant design that reflects how our military branches work together to protect our country.

Santa Monica Veterans Memorial is small but it’s hard to beat this setting on the bluff in Palisades Park in Santa Monica.

One thing wrong: the shadows align with the dark stone pavers jutting from their bases only ONE TIME each year: the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the date and time the Armistice of WWII was signed.

So ONLY at 11am, Nov 11th.
