About Scripps Coastal Reserve a UCSD Property in La Jolla, California

Hidden in a La Jolla housing community west of the University of California San Diego, you’ll find a park on the bluff overlooking the ocean. Locals, students and UCSC staff members come here in the evenings to see the outstanding sunset view. During daylight hours the park is a great place to go for a hike. The Knoll Trail is a looping self-guided ecological tour on a “biodiversity trail.” Due to the sensitivity of the plants and animal habitat, visitors must stay on the trails and refrain from smoking, drinking, and picnicking. Paragliders launching from the bluff above Blacks Beach will be riding thermals to the north and above the reserve on most days. This park is owned by the University of California and open to the public from 8am until sunset every day. There is no beach access from the reserve but just to the north a paved trail meanders down to South Black’s Beach.
