About South Black’s Beach in La Jolla, California

The southern section of Black’s Beach, also known as Torrey Pines City Beach, is accessible through a gate at the intersection of Blackgold Road and La Jolla Farms Road. Find a parking spot on the street nearby (avoid red-painted no parking zones and driveways) and walk the long paved trail to the beach below. Parking on weekdays is limited to 2 hours which isn’t long for a beach visit with a long hike in and out. You’ll probably have surfers to watch in the waves and paragliders soaring overhead.

South Blacks Beach is considered clothing-optional by some locals so be aware if that makes you uncomfortable. The true clothing optional beach is supposed to be at Black’s Beach below the Torrey Pines Gliderport. Above South Blacks Beach is the Scripps Coastal Reserve a UC San Diego property with trails for walking to excellent views. The reserve entrance is next to a home at 9351 La Jolla Farms Road.
